Custom golf clubs by 1998 Golfsmith Distinguished Clubmaker of the Year

Because we are professionals who take clubmaking and more importantly fitting seriously. We are not hobbyist. We offer:

  • Proven Excellence and Quality - "1998 Golfsmith Distinguished Clubmaker Award"
  • Proven Commitment to learning:
    • Golf Clubmakers Association Member: 1993 - present
    • Professional Clubmakers Society Member - 1994-2000
  • Proven Capabilities via an extensive Investment in tools, training and equipment
    • Scotland Loft & Lie Machine
    • Pitney Digital Scale
    • Golfsmith Swingweight Scale
    • Golfsmith Digital Frequency Meter
  • On-line since 1996 - We will be around when you are ready for additional drivers, irons, upgrades, or repairs
  • Featured in July, 2000 PC World Magazine

While we offer great value, in some rare cases we are not the lowest price supplier.  We use first quality shafts not commercial grade steel...stainless steel heads not alloys for durability and weight consistency...first quality grips not seconds.  We can match most pricing on the net but the old adage holds true.."You get what you pay for." You may pay a few extra pennies per week but it will be worth it.

Why one size clubs don't fit?

No two golfers are alike. Their bodies are different and their swings are different. It just makes sense that their golf clubs shouldn't be the same. As a baseball player, you pick your glove, bat length, and weight. In tennis select your pick racket type, size, grip, string tension, string type, and gauge.

In every sport, to play your best, you play with equipment fitted for you. Golf is no different. Professionals golfers understand this yet the average golfer has more to gain with properly fitted equipment. All pro-golfers play with custom-fitted equipment - YOU CAN TOO !!.

Quite simply: Custom fitted clubs allow you to shoot lower scores.

Why are custom clubs so important?

Everyone agrees that the game is hard enough and ill-fitted equipment just makes it worse. The key ingredients to success on the links are the following:

  • Repeatable Golf Swing (so take the money you save here and buy some lessons)

  • Regular Practice and On-Course Play,

  • the Right Golf Equipment (this is where we come in) , and a

  • Good Attitude - funny how the 6-iron 2-feet pin-high right can change your entire outlook on the round :-)

We are here to improve one of the more important elements to a healthier golf "love-hate" relationship.

How fitting works?

GRIP
  • Critical for control of the golf club throughout the swing
  • Feel
  • Too small or too big doesn't allow moderate grip pressure for maximum clubhead speed

LENGTH

  • Every golfer should swing the longest golf club that can be consistently hit on-center.
  • Length determination is a function of physical parameters as well as ability. It should not be randomly selected based on height or gender.
  • Any golf club too long or too short will yield loss of directional control, distance loss, and bad trajectory - in other words, just plain bad shots.
  • SHAFT TYPE: Weight, Frequency, Torque, Balance Point

    • There are over 2000 golf shafts available and choosing the right shaft is critical to get the most out of your swing.
    • Weight, frequency or flex, torque, material, and kick point must be matched to the golfer's club head speed and tempo.
    • We can frequency match any set of shafts using our Golfsmith Frequency Analyzer
    • We use the Dynacraft Dynamic Shaft Fitting Software to get it right - the first time. (see below)
    LOFT AND LIE
    • Lie is critical for directional control especially on short irons.
    • Loft of club heads must meet your distance and trajectory goals
    • We use the Scotland Loft & Lie Machine - the personal choice of dozens of PGA Tour players, to customize your loft and lie specifications.

    • Weight Sorting & balancing - GUARANTEED SWINGWEIGHTS +/- 1 pt by weighing all components including grips.  With manufacturing tolerances of +/- 3 grams on heads, and +/- 4 grams on shafts, and +/- 2 grams on grips, a set without weight sorting can yield clubs that are different by as much as 2 to 4 swingweight points.  Do you ever wonder why there are a few clubs in the bags that just don't feel right.  In most cases the swingweight is off from the rest of the set, along with frequency. We use a Pitney Digital Scale to weight sort and balance grips, heads, and shafts prior to assembly.
    • Custom Swingweighting - need a higher swingweight, just let us know. Our Golfsmith Swingweight scales ensures accurate measurements.
    • Spine Neutralizing - SST Puring™ for the most consistent shaft behavior for up to 20-50% more on-center hits Highly recommended on woods, especially the driver. (Every employee at Precision GolfCrafters plays SST PURED shafts in woods and/or irons)  Not available on all shafts.  Please select the shaft of your choice and we will make substitution if necessary.  We've observed the most perfect roundness 96% to 98% and spine neutralization with  a logo-up position in Rapport Filament Wound shafts.  In fact, over half of the Rapport Filament Wound shafts that have been PURED did not need it and the ones that did exhibited the least amount of fluctuation.  We'll be publishing the actual test results over the last 2 years shortly.
    • Frequency Matching and slope customization - Upon request, we will frequency sort any set of shafts so that the most flexible shafts are in the long irons and the stiffest in the short irons and ensure all shafts are within +/- 2pcm or 1/5 of a flex (The only shafts that don't require this service are FM Precision Rifle or Grafalloy Pro-Logic graphite)
    • Custom Loft and Lie - For trajectory and distance control on all clubs and better accuracy on the short irons. We use the Scotland Loft & Lie Machine - the personal choice of dozens of PGA Tour players, to customize your loft and lie specifications.

    What's in the bag?

We often get asked "what do you guys play?" which is a hard question because we tend to switch equipment often given the business we are in.
    DRIVERS
KZG is it! Darren (12° and 10.5°(PFT) and Mark (9.5°) play the KZG Maraging steel and this has to be one of the most solid and longest drivers we've ever tried.  Mark plays a Grafalloy ProLite 45-stiff and can really move it out there.  D plays a Carbon Fiber Novus A/C shaft no longer made but PUred and dead on the frequency that works best for me @247cpm (super slow tempo ~102mph).  We've all played the Snake Eyes and Golfsmith Titanium off and on but prefer the KZG  which sets up square to slightly open and because it's under 320cc in size. John likes his Harvey Penick titanium which is no longer made but he's now leaning toward the US Tour 300cc with a BiMatrix shaft.

    FAIRWAY WOODS
D plays the Golfsmith Extreme Steel 14° with a Proforce 75-R pured. "Never hit a better 3wood, ever"  D's 5 wood is a Titleist 975F 18.5° reshafted with a Aldila Tour Grade 90 - Stiff and Spine PURED.  I made the mistake of letting someone hit the Extreme Steel 5wood and couldn't get it back so I made a trade for the Titleist which I like because of it's small size.  Mark loves his Acer XDS2 3 and 5wood with Rapport Filament Wound shafts that are Pured. One of our best combinations for the money.  John tends to stick with what works, the first generation Acers woods with matching shafts.

We use Winn Grips on all of our woods because of the great feel and the lower weight.. We've found them much more durable than the Velvet Lites which are on the thin side.

    IRONS
Darren's playing a Excaliber 001 irons which is very close to a Titleist 962. Not many were made so I snatched up a few sets for myself.  I play Dynalite Gold R300 with Sensicore with Velvet grips.  Once again all shafts are weight sorted, frequency matched, slope sorted, and PURED.  Every club in the bag feels exactly the same.  Some times, I have to look down to see which iron I pulled out of the bag.  I played the Dynacraft PC3 irons the year before...the PC3s have to be one of the most forgiving clubs I hit.  If you are considering Ping i3 irons, do your self a favor and buy the PC3s and take your significant other on a vacation with the money you will save.

Mark plays the Copperhead CU irons from Dynacraft with Dynamic Gold S300 graphite and Winn Grips.  Nice clubs.  John plays the 858s irons with Dynamic Gold S300 and Golf Pride Tour Wrap grips.
